Artist's Comments

This drawing is a little larger format then I am usually used to working in so it was somewhat of an experiment in bigger portraiture - I used the same Arches hot press watercolor paper but the oversized sheets came in 260 lb. insted of the 140 lb. - these sheets seem to have more of a toothy texture (on the backside where i usually work) then the 140 lb. so I spent many more hours smoothing out the charcoal tones then expected ... i think the front will work much better - anyhow, I feel good about the overall outcome of the work and have another subject ready to go in the same format

this drawing will be on display, along with "Harley" in the 'About Face' exhibit at the Modern Arts Midwest Contemporary Gallery in Lincoln, Ne from August 1st though the 30th 2008 if anyone is in the area ...

Wish I was nearby as I would love to see your work in real life, really get my face right up into it. The blending of the skin must have been a bit of a pain at this size.

I'm living in a land of virtual reality.

Excellent affect! There is a real tension and intensity to this drawing. Very cool!

Damn man..that is intense! It's like his skin is moving. Great job. Congrats on having it in an exhibit..worthy of being shown for sure.

Woah crazy work! Wish I could see it in person...it has to be even more amazing. I love the liquid look of the skin and the broken capillaries on the nose!!

it was different for sure ... do to the very dramatic and close cropping it made everything that much bigger to deal with - trying to master the effect of drawing blurry with a pencil was somewhat tricky - thanks *

thanks man ... i wanted to really trick out the reference photos by upping the contrast greatly to bring out as many pores and wrinkles and such as possible - looks vastly different from where i started - i began drawing them in even moreso to add to the effect

Excellent work, I like those details. Keep up the great work.

Are you there?
:icondizzykid:
he always looks like a grumpy bastard but he was suprisingly photogenic when i took the ref shots ... i had to go back a second time and tell him to look more salty, like his normal self, in the nicest way possible of course! - thanks man ..*
